Bob Knowlton - Former Bosque Farms Village Mayor

Please support me in my bid to be appointed Mayor after Wayne Ake's resignation

I want to thank everyone who voted for me in the November 2023 Mayoral election.  Unfortunately, I lost.  Wayne Ake won, but was not able to carry out his duties because of health issues.  I wish him well.  I am asking for support in my bid to have the Council appoint me as Mayor. In my tenure as Mayor, and previously as a Village Councilor and Planning & Zoning Commissioner, I did much in support of the Village of Bosque Farms, which has been my home for over 3 decades.

Why suppport me for Mayor?

I am the candidate with the best credentials to address several important issues facing the Village right now: an upgrade to our sewage treatment plant, repairs to one of our water tanks and economic development. As a licensed professional engineer with a background in water & wastewater treatment, as well as groundwater cleanup, I can manage the critical infrastructure projects that need to be done for the health & safety of our community. For many years on the Council and as Mayor, I worked on enhancing economic development on highway 47, efforts that helped bring Tractor Supply to the Village.  The Village needs a proactive economic development effort to provide the necessary gross receipts taxes to run the Village and provide adequate services.  I have the experience to secure state and federal funding to get these important projects completed. I have proven leadership capabilities and a vision to keep Bosque Farms a desirable, rural place to live and thrive.

Past Accomplishments

Secured funding and provided oversight for the library addition.

Led the effort for water system upgrades (new, more efficient pumps; tank maintenance).

Started the summer youth program.

Secured 3 rounds of funding for recreation site upgrades, including adding the 3rd ball field for the Little League.

Economic development efforts that helped bring Tractor Supply to the Village. My economic development committee wrote proposals and received grants from the State's economic development department. Those funds were used in part to create a quality economic development web site.  Unfortunately, in 2018 the Village revamped their web site and left off the economic development material. If selected, I will bring that material back to the Village web site.  I also was a voice in getting the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) changed at the State level to allow small communities with less than 10,000 residents to offer tax incentives to retail businesses, which could be instrumental in recruiting businesses to the Village.

A member of the governing body when the Village built the police/fire station, maintenance building, multi-use path, and community center improvements.

Contributed to multiple rewrites/updates to the zoning ordinance.

Contributed to multiple rewrites of the comprehensive plan.

Completed a substantial rewrite of the animal control ordinance.

While on the governing body, I was the representative to the Library Board, which I revitalized and led the effort that updated the Village ordinance on library and board functions.

Strong support for police, fire and EMS.

Giving Back to the Community

I have been a part of this community for over 30 years, and tried to give back when I could.

I raised 3 children in Bosque Farms, who are now adults.

I was very active with them in sports. I refereed AYSO soccer games.  I was an umpire, coach, manager, player agent, and a board member in Yucca Little League.

I was involved with activities at Bosque Farms Elementary. I was one of a dozen parents that challenged the Los Lunas School District in the early 2000s when they announced they were going to close the school due to low enrollment.  At the time, it was K thru 4th grade. A big thanks to Maria Maes Marez, who was part of that effort, and went on to run for school board.  She helped save the school and get funds for an addition and changed it to K thru 6th grade.  Shortly after that, it was named a national Blue Ribbon school. What an awesome school!

For many years, I was active with my kids at the rodeo association.  I have helped with many projects there, including welding fences and putting in most of the tile in the Cowboy Hall restrooms when they were upgraded some years ago.

I was involved with our local 4H group when my kids participated.

For more than 15 years I have been on the Bosque Farms Fair Board.  I have been running the horse shoe pitching contest throughout that time. I usually participate in the parade and sometimes in the car show.

In 2000, I decided I wanted to give back to the community in a more direct manner.  I was appointed to the Planning & Zoning Commission and served for 4 years, one of those as chairman.  Then I ran for Village Council, serving 8 years (2 terms).  Next, I was elected Mayor in 2012 and served for one 4 year term.  I was unsuccessful in my 2016 election bid.  I still have much to offer this Village and have a dedication to serve. While on the governing body, I published my email address and had an open door policy.  If elected, I pledge to be available and responsive to the residents of the Village.

I embrace the rural charm of the Village.  I own two acres, have several horses, a goat, chickens and dogs.  I like playing around on my 1953 Ford 8N tractor as well!

I work at Sandia National Laboratories where my title is Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff.  In my role as an engineer at Sandia, I have made significant contributions to our country's national security, and have been proud to do so.

If you are wondering if I have the time to devote to the Mayor's job, the answer is yes!  I was Mayor from 2012 -2016 while employed full-time at Sandia.  I accomplished much in that time and plan to accomplish much if elected again.
